When you think of the top places in the world to elope, the Saskatchewan prairies typically don’t come to mind – but I want to convince you otherwise. With the rise in ‘micro weddings’ and elopements, young couples are looking for a special way to tie the knot and save some money in the process. I want to show you that the Saskatchewan prairies are a perfect spot for this.
The vast grasslands of Saskatchewan are littered with tiny churches that are just waiting to be walked through again – waiting to hear vows of love, cheers of gratitude, and emphatic I do’s. These historical buildings create the perfect venue for the intimate wedding of your dreams and this beautiful land of the living skies can be your witness. Convinced? Not yet? Okay, maybe these photos will help.
Meet Libby and Brayden. While their love story may not have started in Saskatchewan, these rolling hills and wide open skies have been a big part of their lives. Libby came to Saskatchewan from Winnipeg, Manitoba to study journalism, which is where we met. What started as classmates four years ago turned into a sweet friendship which then brought me here, photographing this couple in a beautiful little church.
The soft colours, gorgeous summer backdrop and a hopelessly in love couple make this photo session a perfect ad for an elopement. These photos make their love look effortless, as if I stumbled across some strangers for a walk in the field and pulled out my camera. I think they look right at home in the prairie church and golden light.
One thing I love about photographing weddings and engagements is the individuality that is expressed in each and every one – the wedding is always so perfectly unique, a reflection of themselves and what love looks like through their eyes. Then I get to reflect that vision back in my photos. I get to share images that will be looked over and reminisced for decades to come. That’s pretty magical, right?
